Have FUN and EXPLORE your creativity in clay camp this summer!

We are offering 22 themed half-day week-long camps this summer in our indoor and outdoor classrooms. Each session is half-day, either morning or afternoon, and you can put a morning and afternoon together to make it a full day experience. Come have fun and explore the world of clay. Learn a wide variety of techniques including: Pinch pots, coil construction, slab projects, simple pieces on the wheel, as well as glazing and firing techniques. With a maximum of 12 kids per session, students receive both group and individual instruction at their own skill level. Beginners are welcome. Our experienced instructors will offer patient encouragement and guidance to make your child’s experience both magical and exciting. Handbuilding classes are open to all skill levels ages 6 - 16. Wheel classes open to all skill levels ages 8 - 16.  All campers need to bring a snack and a drink with them. Full day campers must bring their own lunch and a drink, which they will enjoy with other classmates during a staff supervised lunch period in between sessions. See additional information about camp below.

Summer Camp Policies

Age and Ability Restrictions

We work closely with our teachers to develop the most favorable age ranges and ability levels for each camp. In order to ensure the success of our programs, we ask that you observe these restrictions when registering your children for camps. SCAC will make exceptions to the ages or ability levels indicated in the descriptions under special circumstances. Please contact us directly to request exceptions.

What to Wear and Bring

Kids may get messy, so make sure your child wears appropriate clothing and footwear (sneakers are best; no open-toed shoes.) All clay and glaze materials will wash out of clothing, but a smock or apron might be appropriate for children who are worried about getting clay on their clothes. For wheel classes, kids must bring an old towel with them. SCAC will provide all other materials, but if your child has their own tool set, they are welcome to bring them! Kids need to come in with clean masks every day.

Drop off / Pick up

Parents and caregivers should drop off and pick up their children at the Main Classroom. On the first day, please come into the classroom and introduce yourself and your child and to turn in your emergency contact information document. Please do not drop your child off too early (no more than 5 minutes before class time); pick up your child promptly at the end of class. SCAC does offer Early Bird Drop Off for an extra $30/week, which enables you to bring your child at 8:30am instead of 9:00 am. SCAC will provide supervision for full-day campers during lunch.

Snack Break

Campers take a short break in each camp, so please pack a snack for your child and label the bag with his/her name. Parents must supply lunches and snacks for children in full day camps. Please note: SCAC’s facility is NOT peanut free, and we will be offering special snacks on some days, such as popsicles or cookies. Please notify us 3 weeks in advance if your child has special dietary issues that would affect the other campers and we will do our best to notify parents of the issue.

Completed Projects

Completed projects may be picked up two-four weeks after the camp ends; we will email you when they are ready. We strongly recommend that you bring your child with you to help identify what s/he made. Projects left after September 10 the will be discarded. If you cannot pick up your child's projects by this date, please make arrangements for someone else to pick them up or call the office to make arrangements for a later pick up.

Instructors and Class Content

All instructor listings are subject to change. Students can expect to make new work Monday through Thursday and spend Friday finishing and glazing. Class time will include time for cleanup, an integral part of the process. Class descriptions are subject to change depending on ability levels of participating students. Your children will be encouraged to create several pieces during class. You can anticipate your child having 3-4 completed works. Please Note: Due to the very nature of clay and the firing process, SCAC cannot be responsible for any damage to work caused by poor construction or the firing or glazing processes.
