Want to add a little sparkle to your pieces? Join us for a one-day workshop where you will enjoy the opportunity to accentuate your ceramic work with luster overglazes! These overglazes add a low temperature sheen to a fully fired piece. Add a mother of pearl atmosphere (similar to a rainbow oil spill), or silver/gold accents that highlight your designs!

During this two-hour workshop, students will receive instruction on how to safely handle and apply luster. Students will bring pieces ready to accent, and the instructor will discuss design properties and elements utilizing luster. The instructor will also demonstrate proper application of mother of pearl, gold, and silver luster onto fully fired pieces. Students will then have plenty of work time to luster their pieces and ask questions! Lustered pieces will be left at SCAC after the workshop to be fired, and students will receive an email when they are ready for pick up.

Materials & Other Info

Students must bring 4 pieces that have been glazed and fired. Glossy surfaces will work best. SCAC will provide luster, gloves, masks, and post workshop firings. Students will be provided enough luster to complete two pieces with mother of pearl, one piece with silver luster accents, and one piece with gold luster accents. Workshop will take place outdoors to minimize fumes. Rain date TBA.
