Thee Architects

  • Saratoga Clay Arts Center 167 Hayes Road Schuylerville, NY, 12871 United States (map)

Guest curated by Gerald Brown, Thee Architects is an exhibition highlighting works by artists analyzing the meta/physical implications architecture has on its inhabitants. Showcasing an expansive definition of this design process and its diverse manifestations, each artist uses ceramics to depict different forms of architecture. From manmade institutions to environmental structures to cultural documentation, the artists depict how these constructions physically engage, govern and contain people, while simultaneously having a psychological impact that often outlives the tangible entities.

Architecture has a heavy responsibility of constructing and shaping society. Examples like prisons, temporary burial plots and even family portraits are all pillars of architecture designed to uphold cultural ideologies or incite new shifts. Commenting on the public architects that shape civilization, these artists also play active roles as architects themselves, constructing complex and imaginative visions for their environment.

Participating Artists: Paul Briggs (MA), Eugene Ofori Agyei (FL), Isaac Scott (PA), Habiba El-Sayed (Toronto), Joan Quiones (NY), Malene Barnett (PA), Rodrigo Lara (IL)
